SKC News: Kei Kamara, Dom Dwyer, Robb Heineman, Orlando’s Coach Suspended

Kei Kamara gets traded, Dom Dwyer and Sydney Leroux, Robb Heineman writes a letter to the fans, 2026 World Cup and Orlando’s coach suspended.

In today’s news roundup Kei Kamara gets traded, but not to Sporting Kansas City. Dom Dwyer and Sydney Leroux prepare to be parents. Robb Heineman writes an open letter to Sporting KC fans. Orlando City will be without their coach for this weekend’s game. And news on the 2026 World Cup.

In case you missed it we ask if it’s time for Sporting KC to panic? Jaylin Lindsey signed with the Swope Park Rangers and had the best week ever (who remembers that show). As if you needed a reminder, Sporting KC lost to the Colorado Rapids (who are stunningly leading the Supporter’s Shield standings). And Jen Buczkowski will play her final game tonight after she announced her retirement last week.

Robb Heineman Knows Fans Deserve Better

Sporting Club CEO, Robb Heineman, wrote a letter to the fans addressing the Kei Kamara (we’ll get to that) situation and the fact that Sporting KC are losing a ton of games. It is just a letter, but I really appreciate it. Not every owner would take the time to do that. This is the worst stretch of games since before Sporting moved into Children’s Mercy Park and maybe we aren’t the only ones panicking.

Kei Kamara Gets Traded

After Kamara got into it with his teammates on the field and then addressed it again through the media, rumors began to circulate he would be traded. Naturally, many people wanted Kamara back in Kansas City. He was here in the past and everyone is concerned about the inability to score goals (which is essential to win games if you hadn’t noticed).

I pointed out that he is a Designated Player and Sporting KC already have three of them (Matt Besler, Graham Zusi and Diego Rubio). Either someone like Zusi would need to be traded or Rubio would need to be released from his loan. Also, Kamara reported makes around a million per season now on his new contract and Sporting aren’t known to be huge spenders (Roger Espinoza makes $750,000 and was the highest paid player in 2015).

Well it’s all a moot point now as Kei was traded to the New England Revolution for some table scraps. The deal was for General Allocation Money, Targeted Allocation Money, New England’s highest 1st Round MLS SuperDraft pick in 2017, New England’s highest 2nd Round MLS SuperDraft pick in 2018 and one of New England’s international roster spots for the 2016 season.

I don’t know about you, but I’d give that up all day to have him back in Sporting Blue. Obviously we don’t know how much TAM and GAM, but draft picks aren’t worth what they used to be worth and even though Kei is 31-years-old, he probably has a few good season at least left. Look at Didier Drogba. He’s approaching 40 and still playing pretty darn good.

Orlando Head Coach Suspended for SKC Game

Adrian Heath, the head coach of Orlando City SC, will be suspended for the game against Sporting KC this weekend. Heath stepped onto the field of play in the 54th minute to throw a ball back. That violated the league’s policy entering the field of play. Let’s hope Orlando falls apart this weekend. Assistant coach Mark Watson will take over Heath’s duties.

Dom and Syd on Parenthood

I’m a little late on this, but for Mother’s Day ESPN interviewed Dom Dwyer and Sydney Leroux. It’s definitely worth a watch. I find it amusing that the first couple of American Soccer consist of a Canadian female and English male. Unless you consider Alex Morgan and Servando Carrasco the first couple. I don’t think it’s really up for debate since Dom is such a star.

Corner Kicks

  • The 2026 World Cup bidding process has been announced. It’s likely that the United States, Canada and Mexico will all be bidding.
  • Sporting KC have fallen to 14th in the MLS Power Rankings and that was before losing to Colorado on Wednesday. 14th is the lowest spot this season and one spot behind this weekend’s opponent, Orlando. Columbus is 19th and probably headed to 20th.
  • I love kits but these are terrifying.
  • Speaking of kits, here is a ranking of all the NWSL kits. FC Kansas City come in at 2nd (up from 8th last season) but I can’t agree with putting Orlando 1st. It’s basically just a purple jersey. I get that everyone nearly uses blue, but come on.
  • The USL apparently has a terrible review process of fouls and needs to learn from MLS. It is having a negative impact on the Swope Park Rangers.
