Sporting Kansas City will hope to end a six-game losing streak in all competitions against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday. The team have conceded 21 goals across those six games, as the team are on pace to set a new record for most goals allowed in an MLS season.
Sporting Kansas City’s fortunes hit a new low a week ago in a 5-0 loss to the Chicago Fire, with all five Chicago goals coming in the second half.
The Seattle Sounders will arrive at Sporting Park seeking a seventh win of the MLS season. Brian Schmetzer’s team are on a three-match winning streak in all competitions. Sitting fourth in the Western Conference, the Sounders are quietly enjoying a strong start to the campaign. With 19 points from eight games, Seattle could make a run at the Supporters’ Shield.
No player has been more important to the Sounders in 2026 than Jesus Ferreira. Seattle pulled off a coup by signing Ferreira from FC Dallas in January 2025 in a transfer fee-plus-player deal.
Making the right moves
FC Dallas received Leo Chu, $1 million in 2025 GAM, $500,000 in 2026 GAM, and up to $800,000 in additional GAM based on performance. The Hoops also received a 2025 International Roster Slot. In MLS terms, Seattle gave up a great deal. Yet in on-field performances, they have received far more.
Ferreira scored five goals and tallied 10 assists in 48 games in all competitions in 2025. Four of those goals and four of those assists came in MLS regular season play.
So far in 2026, Ferreira has picked up right where he left off. In eight MLS matches, the attacker has one goal and four assists for the Sounders. Ferreira averages just over 56 minutes per game in MLS, yet he has been Seattle’s best attacking player alongside Albert Rusnak. Rusnak is currently battling an injury, potentially giving Ferreira more minutes against Sporting KC in MLS Week 10.
Ferreira’s best performances have come in recent appearances. In just 37 minutes against St. Louis City, he bagged an assist in a 4-1 Seattle win. Against former team FC Dallas, Ferreira scored the Sounders’ opening goal in a 2-1 victory.
By the numbers
Ferreira has taken seven shots in MLS play, resulting in one goal. All seven shots have come inside the penalty area. He has an xG of 1.61, slightly underperforming based on his shot selection.
Six of Ferreira’s shots have hit the target. In addition, those shots have been varied, with right-footed efforts, left-footed efforts, and headers all testing goalkeepers. Three of Ferreira’s shots have come from headers.
It is Ferreira’s chance creation that best defines his play. The attacking midfielder, who has also played on the wing this season, has four assists. He has overachieved his xA this season, which sits at 1.02. That shows Ferreira’s teammates are finishing the opportunities he creates even if they are low in value.
Seattle have scored 12 goals this season, but have the second-lowest xG in MLS. Only Sporting KC have a lower xG than the Sounders’ 9.8. Seattle average just 1.5 goals per game. However, they are playing one of the worst defenses in MLS and have an in-form attacking midfielder. It could all come up Ferreira at Sporting Park.
