Lorena has earned another call-up to the Brazilian Women’s National Team, with the Kansas City Current goalkeeper selected for Brazil’s June friendlies against the United States Women's National Soccer Team. Brazil will face the USWNT on June 6 and June 9 in two high-profile matches that will serve as important preparation ahead of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which Brazil will host.
Lorena, who has earned 43 caps for Brazil, remains one of the most established goalkeepers in South American women’s soccer. The upcoming friendlies will offer Brazil another opportunity to measure itself against one of the strongest teams in the world while also showcasing the country’s growing investment in the women’s game ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
The Brazilian goalkeeper joined Kansas City ahead of the 2025 NWSL season from Gremio and immediately transformed the Current defensively. Kansas City conceded just 13 goals during the 2025 campaign, the fewest in the league, with Lorena becoming one of the defining signings of the season. Across 24 NWSL appearances, she recorded 59 saves and helped Kansas City post a remarkable 19 wins, two draws, and three loss record.
This season has been far more demanding for both Lorena and the Current’s back line. Kansas City have already conceded 16 goals through the opening stages of the 2026 season, surpassing last year’s total before the midway point of the campaign. Lorena has been forced into heavier workloads, making 28 saves in just 10 matches as opponents have created far more chances against Chris Armas’ side. The Current remain one of the NWSL’s most dangerous attacking teams, but defensive instability has become one of the defining themes of their season.
At the international level, Lorena’s importance to Brazil continues to grow. She played a major role in Brazil’s 2024 Copa America triumph, producing a decisive penalty shootout save against Colombia in the final to help secure the title. After making her senior national team debut in 2021, she played a key role during Brazil’s run to the silver medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The two friendlies against the United States will take place at Neo Quimica Arena in Sao Paulo and Arena Castelao in Fortaleza. Historically, the USWNT has dominated the matchup, holding a 34 win, five draw, and four loss record against Brazil in all competitions. However, meetings between the sides in Brazil have been relatively rare, with only six previous encounters taking place on Brazilian soil.
Brazil are ranked sixth in the FIFA world rankings, while the United States sit second.
